Sahara Pune Warriors – IPL 2011 New Team

Apart from the eight IPL teams that played in the first three editions of the tournament, two more added in the auction during the third season of the IPL. The two teams were the teams of Kochi and Pune.
Pune:
The city of Pune became the ninth team to be a part of the IPL franchises, as it was won by the Sahara Group for an almost disbelieving sum of $370 million. The base price of the auctions had been kept at $225 million and the Sahara Group won it by paying a premium of $145m over it.
Sahara has been associated with the Indian cricket team for years now given that it sponsors the Indian team.
The franchise has been named as the Sahara Warriors Pune, and it does look like the side may try its best to get aboard Sachin Tendulkar if it possibly can.
The home matches for the Pune side will be played at the new stadium that will be constructed for the Maharashtra Cricket Associations (MCA) that is still under construction. The stadium is located about 25 km from the main city of Pune.
The emblem of the team consists of a warrior riding a horse.

Mumbai Indians – IPL Mumbai Indians Team
IPL 4 Mumbai Indians Teams Players List is placed hereMumbai had gone into the auctions with all their four players that were allowed to be retained in their team. This meant that they had lost $4.5 million of their purse and were only left with $4.5 million. However, that did not stop them from making some really big purchases.
First up, they bought Rohit Sharma for a whopping sum of $2 million that reduced their kitty further down to $2.5 million. However, their more interesting buy was that of Andrew Symonds which meant that they were left with Harbhajan Singh and Symonds in the same team. Harbhajan and have had a long-term feud for some time now.
The other two buys for Mumbai Indians were James Franklin as an all-rounder and Davy Jacobs the wicket-keeper. These purchases mean that Mumbai Indians are left with only $1.45 million in their kitty now and have one whole day of auctions left. They also have only eight players in their team so far.
Mumbai had spent a lot of money in retaining the four main players and on Rohit Sharma on the first day of the auction. This meant that on the second day of the auctions, they did not have too much for them.
Still they managed to buy Munaf Patel for a whopping sum of $700,000, which reduced their pure further. What made things easier for them later was the fact that they could win three other cricketers for a relatively smaller sum in Clint McKay ($110,000), Moises Henriques ($50,000) and Aiden Blizzard ($20,000). How they manage to use the rest of the money in getting the uncapped players will make a lot of difference. Mumbai Indians IPL Auction 2011 Results is placed below.

Chennai Super Kings – IPL Chennai Super Kings Team
IPL 4 Chennai Super Kings Teams Players List is placed here. The Chennai Super Kings was the other team who had gone into the auction with four players retained and hence were left with only $4.5 million at the start of the auction. However, unlike Mumbai they did not go after the really costly players. Their strategy was simpler – try to buy back as many players that they had in the last year.
For starters, they have S Badrinath for $800,000, a sum of money that looks far greater than what he deserved. Same goes with R Ashwin who was won for a bid of $850,000 and their pace bowler Doug Bollinger who was won over for $700,000.
Their best buy was probably Michael Hussey, another of their previous year players for a sum of $450,000 – not too many going after Hussey especially given that he is not getting any younger any more.
There were two other buys, Dwayne Bravo for $200,000 and W Saha for $100,000.
Chennai Super Kings had decided to go in with a simple strategy; try to retain all the players from the previous season and they seemed to be very successful. Of the previous year’s players, they had Joginder Sharma ($150,000), Sudeep Tyagi ($240,000), George Bailey ($50,000) amongst the others whom they had taken in the first day of the auction.
Apart from the others, they had also chosen Scott Styris ($200,000), Ben Hilfenhaus ($100,000), Nuwan Kulasekera ($100,000), Suraj Randiv ($80,000), Faf du Plessis ($120,000).
This meant that they had taken up a strong bowling side for the day. Chennai Super Kings IPL Auction 2011 Results is placed below.

IPL 4 Kings XI Punjab Teams Players List is placed here. Kings XI Punjab had also been one of the teams to go into the auctions without wanting to retain any of the players. However, they went for Yuvraj Singh from the word go, but did not win him.
What they did get was David Hussey for a rather exorbitant price of $1.4 million and a rather surprising choice of Dinesh Karthik for a huge sum again – $900,000.
What surprised a lot of people was their buy of Piyush Chawla for a near million bucks despite not having had too much success with them in the previous couple of editions, but Adam Gilchrist more than made up for it by being bought for $900,000.
Praveen Kumar was fiercely fought for and won for $800,000 but the biggest shock of the auction was the selection of Abhishek Nayar, who went for $800,000 – 16 teams above his reserve price. Stuart Broad and Ryan Harris were also won by Punjab.
Punjab were notably restrained in their buying of players, probably wanting to retain the money for the rest of the player buy-outs in the uncapped category. Nathan Rimmington ($20,000) was the only player bought by them on the second day. Kings XI Punjab IPL Auction 2011 Results is placed below.

Team Kochi
Team Kochi – IPL Team Kochi Team
IPL 4 Team Kochi Teams Players List is placed here. The second new team in the auction
this year was Team Kochi and rather surprisingly, they went on to spend a million and a half
dollars on Mahela Jayawardene.
Muthiah Muralitharan was also fought for keenly by them against Chennai and won him over for
a $1.1 million but the biggest shock came when they decided to bid for Ravindra Jadeja
for $950,000.
The one expected selection was that of S Sreesanth who was bought over for $900,000.
Sreesanth is from the state of Kerala, the state where the team is from as well. RP Singh will
also play for Kochi after being bought for half a million while Brendon McCullum was a surprise
low buy-out for $475,000.
One interesting purchase is Brad Hodge, who has been one of the most consistent performers in
recent times at the domestic T20 level and he was bought for $425,000. Some of the others were
VVS Laxman, Parthiv Patel, Steven Smith and Ramesh Powar.
Kochi looked to be going for an all-bowling team despite needing some good batsmen in their side.
Thisara Perera ($80,000) was followed by Indian Vinay Kumar ($475,000), Australia left-arm
spinner Steve O’Keefe ($20,000) before the batsmen made their presence felt.
Owais Shah ($200,000) and South Australian Michael Kilnger ($75,000) were selected for the side.
